IMDB rating: 7.00 Plot: Set on a colorful Greek island, the plot serves as a background for a wealth of great ABBA songs which are used in remarkably appropriate ways. A young woman about to be married discovers that any one of three men could be her father. She invites all three to the wedding without telling her mother, Donna, who was once the lead singer of Donna and the Dynamos. In the meantime, Donna has invited her backup singers, Rosie and Tanya. |

Please Give as Many Suggestions as Possible along with a Brief Summary of the Movie you chose; Thank- You.
Kramer vs. Kramer is great - she and Dustin Hoffman are a separated couple who go through a legal battle for their son.
It’s a classic, and a must if you like early Meryl Streep films.

doubt (2008)
It’s 1964, St. Nicholas in the Bronx. A charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the schools’ strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear and discipline. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, and indeed, the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge Flynn from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequence.
one true thing (1998)
One True Thing is a family drama revolving around a dying mother’s final months in the care of her daughter. Ellen Gulden’s father rebukes her for not caring enough about her mother to quit her job, move back home to Upstate New York, and leave her soulmate behind to fend for himself in their tidy New York apartment. But, when she succumbs under the strain of guilt and does as he asks, it appears that he is too busy to carry his part of the load. In fact, it begins to look like Ellen’s father is more concerned with who is going to keep his life running smoothly than who will tend to his poor wife as she struggles with cancer. George Gulden is a gifted professor and English department head, but he is an unrealized novelist. His novel, "Come Back Inn," is still unfinished after many years of torturous self-editing and rewrites long after the advance he received from his publisher is spent. Still, he basks in the reflected glow of more famous and successful writers with whom he maintains tenuous ties. This realization humanizes him for Ellen who has always revered her father as something of a literary giant in spite of his occassional daliances with graduate students. Kate Gulden, dying of cancer at only 48, loves life, and loves her children and her husband. When her suffering finally ends from an overdose of morphine, the District Attorney suspects Ellen of having helped her mother to end her life. In the end, though, it seems to be Kate who still nurtures them, somehow even from the grave.

"Sophie’s Choice"–It’s probably my favorite Meryl Streep movie…her acting is INCREDIBLE in it IMO. It’s a really sad movie about this woman (Meryl’s character) who is recovering from the trauma of being in a concentration camp (the movie came out in the early 80s but it’s set in the late 40s) and having to deal with her boyfriend (Kevin Klein) who is both bipolar and a drug addict…basically she endures his emotional abuse because she believes it’s what she deserves (survivor guilt). If you haven’t seen it, you simply must, especially if you like Meryl Streep.

uh, first and foremost, Sophie’s Choice. her performance in that would be one I’d nominate for the top 10 performances of the 20th century. She plays a Polish refugee dating kinda of a nutjob boyfriend, but as the film progresses you can see she’s harboring a secret that’s eating her up. I won’t tell you what her choice was, but once you find out, it’s devastating.
Silkwood is also terrific. She plays a character who works in a plant and becomes contaminated by radation. Based on a true story about what the company does to cover it up, and how it affects her life.
Defending Your Life is just a great comedy! It’s about what happens after you die, you basically have to undergo a trial to prove that you’re ready to move on to the next phase of existence. She’s in it with Albert Brooks.
If you’re pretty savvy I’d also recommend Adaptation. It’s a really excellent and unexpected film where she co-stars with Nicholas Cage. It’s hard to explain what this movie is about, but basically it takes place in Hollywood and the struggle to adapt a book to a movie.

Silkwood (serious movie, but authentic and very good)
The Bridges Of Madison County (hmm.. love movie with Streep and Eastwood, but one of the few I actually like
The House Of The Spirits (based on Isabelle Allende’s book)
Ironweed (with Jack Nicholson)

Out of Africa, Doubt, Kramer Vs Kramer, Sophia’s Choice, Marvin’s Room, Before and After, Bridges Over Madison County, One Tree Thing, Music of the Heart, and Dark matter.
With your choice of the movies you own of her’s. You might enjoy She-Devil. She plays a author who has a very easy life, but when she sleeps with Rosanne Barr’s husband, Rosanne leaves her kids with them, and turns her world upside down. It’s a comedy.
