im insomnic help me i have to get up tomorrow.?
i didn’t sleep last night. and i’m having trouble falling asleep now. any ideas?
i’m allergic to sleep aid medication, i’m mentally stable, but have past trauma that keeps me up.
This is a tricky one but this is what I do. I pick one happy moment of my life, but it has to be a great one. Usually for me, it is something my little boy said or did. You focus all of your mind on remembering every little detail of that moment….actively thinking about everything in that memory. Then hold that in your head and start counting. I’m usually out by about 300, well at least I think because I only ever remember hearing the 200’s in my head. The focusing on that moment takes my brain away from whatever it was that I was thinking about that was scaring me. Counting is a very calming and relaxing exercise. But don’t count out loud, you have to do it in your head. Counting outloud just keeps your brain awake because it has to keep your brain more functional in order to use those motor skills. I’ve found that this technique has about a 95 percent success rate.
Otherwise, if you are over the age of 21, drink one beer over the course of about a half hour. Then don’t drink anymore. In about 1/2 hour after that, out like a light. This is good for the few times the other thing doesn’t work, not a good solution for every day.

I don’t know if it will help much, but chamomile tea helps. Two-three lumps (cubes) of sugar will sweeten it, and is suppose to have a calming affect. I’d suggest riding your bike or walking around for a while. Three days of being awake makes you clinically insane.
If anything, ignoring what is bothering you won’t help, and the options said above are just temporary fixes.
Olhado | Feb 05, 2010
Sounds like PTSD, where you re-live the events over and over in your mind, (which I think, we all have to some degree). For example, someone gave you the "bird" on the freeway, and then you get upset and cannot stop thinking about the incident. Although not a serious offense, it is upsetting, which is usually followed by anger on our part. Because of the anger, the image is on "auto pilot" and continues to flash through the mind.
It is the upset and anger that keeps the problem in your mind. You must deal with the issue, and face the problem, without anger. Sounds impossible? Go to www.fhu.com and do the meditation exercise. The results are outstanding. This is not the transcendental meditation but a christian meditation that actually works.

I want to quit my teaching job so bad?
I work at a middle school general teaching music (theory, composers, keyboards). I just started Monday because a teacher is in leave of absence and I’m left to come into the middle of the year and middle of the rotation with no plans whatsoever. the kids are so rude and disrespectful and are pushing my buttons big time. I really hate every minute of it.
Next friday, I have an interview at a high school teaching choir (which is what i really want to do) for full-time next year. If i get this job, by some act of God, do I quit my current job for my own health’s sake, or stick with it til the end of the year?
so your leaving a school job for another school job?
Ghost | Feb 05, 2010
Teaching middle school can be very difficult, but you cannot be assured that it won’t be like this in the high school too, although by grade 11, most are more mature. Plus, more students choose choir as an elective. At the middle school, is general music a required course? That could make an impact as well. Students who choose their courses generally like them and behave better.
Your financial situation is another issue. I say if the kids are upsetting you that much and it’s affecting your health, and you can afford to take some time off, (maybe a couple of months in a simpler job) until next fall — IF you get that high school job, maybe that is something you can do.
Also, are you single or married and do you have children? Do you need health insurance? Those are all issues to consider.
Just as another bit of information: Many people leave teaching within the first five years if they do not like it, cannot stand it, or can’t take the stress, whatever. Those that stay must have a lot of stamina, I think.
It is possible to make a career change if necessary, but it may take some time to prepare.
wordgirl | Feb 05, 2010
I never taught music. I did drama and English, but my suggestion would be to be Mr. Hardass from now until either you or they can’t take it anymore. Never give them even a second’s time to do anything on their own. From the second they come into the classroom until the bell rings to let them go harrass somebody else, they have something to work on. It could be listening to recordings and recognizing the sounds made by particular instruments to listening to compositions by three composers and trying to identify the composer of one particular piece. By the way, they have to write it down and tell why they think they know who wrote it. Everything they do is worth points in the gradebook. You may just write in 5 or 10 points for their turning it in, but it counts.
Here comes the acting. You must act as if their disrespect is totally meaningless to you. You can react positively to constructive activity, but a rude comment just finds you deaf. "Whatever" is a good word, but in the face of rudeness, it’s an even better attitude. BTW, when you go to this procedure, their behavior will get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.
Whether you quit this job or hold on is totally up to you. But, when you start the new job remember, it is easier to ease off than it is to get that behavior genie back into the bottle. From the start be a taskmaster. You don’t need teenaged friends and they don’t need a friend your age. Be their teacher, a friendly teacher, but not their friend. Keep them busy.

Paranormal Skeptics Will you give your explanation of this psychic experience?
This will be long. Believers can answer and are welcome but I want a skeptics view. As you all know who have been answering questions here for any time know I am a true believer but I am also very skeptical, so I am in the middle most of the time too much of a believer for the hard core skeptic and too skeptical for the believer. Here I find myself siding with the skeptics more then the believers.. but I am a believe myself
I believe in psychics to a point but i am very skeptical of people who claim "Gifts" I have been burned in my younger days by church prophets who had no gifts but were control freaks. Even now as a Wiccan when someone tells me they have the gift to look into peoples souls I am very cautious in associating with them. when people tell me go or spirit told them such and such i run like h***. I do however have at least one very convincing with a man who is a well known professional psychic. I am a very good people reader and may claim I am psychic I have predicted witrh 100 percent accuracy what some will do up to a year before they even knew they were capable of doing such things. I have predicted outcomes with 100 percent accurace of certain events, but this is not anything paranormal or mystic. My ability is just knowing people and situations and being able to read people and situations and if certain things keep going there is only one outcome. It i slike telling a teenager who drinks too much if he or she does not stop they will end up in jail or worse. Except my ability comes for being raised by controlling people and living with and working with controlling people so I hav developed an uncanny ability to predict what controlling people will do even whn they do not think they are capable of such but they must control so i know what they will do to control.
Now my story:
it was 1992 in jan I was divorced and lonely and wanting a lasting marriage and this well know psychi was on the radio taking questions and doing predictions just for fun i called and asked if i would find someone that years I was desiring to be married beofre 1993. Anyway I was seeing a women a few years older then myself I was 39 almost 40 she was 42 but she had a history of living with and dating boys her sons age 22 and 24 so i was hesitant about getting involved with her because I figured shoe would leave me for a younger guy. she did want me to commit but I refused and I also had my ex wife wanteing to stay involved but would not admit it.His answer to my question went somlike this:
You say you have no one right now but I sense there are 2 women in you rlife who want a relationship with you one i spast one is someone you have been seeing casaully. I also see you rejecting these women and you do not meet anyone and you will get to the poing that you are about to give up but later in the year you will meet someone just when you have given up hope and you will be married before the New Year.He said there would be an event that I almost would not attend because i had given up hope of meeting someone but another friend who had once wanted a relationship with me would convince me to attend and this would be where I would meet my soul mate and we would have a wonderful life together.
Long Story short it was October 10,1992 I had not met anyone and there was this dance seminar and party I had paid for but I decided to just forfiet my money and stay home. My Best friend a women who was once in wanting a ralationship with me but both her and I decided it was not a good idea calle me and convinced me to go.she told me tha I may meet my future wife and she jokenly reminded me of what the psychic said. I smirked and told her he is a fek. I had been dating women 5 years older or younger than myself and just that day I decided to widen the range and decided to maybe date older and younger women. I decided that 5 years older was enough but how young was the question. I thought 18 was legal but still a chil and I decided that if the right one came along maybe, just maybe 23. well I had given up and I thought at October even if I did meet that one we could not fall in love and marry before the end of the year. I went to the dance just to get out of the house and to keep my best friend from nagging me. Well I met this wonderful 23 yearold lady, we instantly hit if off like no one else in my life. this lady was more than I ever hoped for and we were married December15,1992 There is much more to the story but it i salready too long but the psychic’s preciottions were dead one. I as a people reader usually say psychics are ood guessers or guess a lot and if guessing a lot som eof those things will come true just like those TV preachers who were on so many stations and aired all over all daythat when they said there is a man who just got fired standing by the frige rignt now thinking i am crazy. well given the ammount of time they air that is going to happen eventually. I did not see this psycic coule read my situation
I apologize for the typos. My computer is very, very slow. In fact I type out a sentence and have to wait for it to appear and the spell check does not work most of the time. so please forgive the errors in typing.
BK no one forced to read it. Just like tve if you don’t like what is on you know where tie off button is. You know where the next question is. Enjoy the 2 points that is all you are getting.
Missy, you did not understand me. I am not psychic my point is I know certain types of people and situations. It is no mystic reasoning when 2 people who fuss and argue all the time get married and you predict the problems it is obvoius. I never claimed to be psychic I am a people reader but I cannot read everyone and this reading is natural, not mystic or occult. If a drunk is stagering down the street and you predict he will fal that is not psychic this is how my ability works. I can only predict what controlling people do. If you are not a control freak then I cannot predict what you will do.
TR: yes I was keeping a daily journal at the time and I still have it somewhere. I was reading it just a few months ago. the events were written at the time of the psychic. I only told the screener that I wanted to know If I would marry beoore the end of the year. Also i want to say again I am not psychic and told my accurate predictions not to brag but to sho9w that I know there are ways, natural ways to appear psychic. I saw nothing thi sman could have naturally read about me. If I had known him personally and if he was aware of my situation I would have marked it off that he is just a good people reader. My journal was abouyt a lot of things and I also wanted to have a record to make fun of this guy when 1993 came around and I was not married. I was in Pentecostal churches where prophecies were common and that is what got me to writting them down to expose the so called accurate ones.
To exlain my predictions beased on situations and controlling people When my wife and I were dating her mother was on vacation1500 miles away it did not take much conversation about her mother to figure out she was a control freak I told my lady that her mother would cut her vacation short to come home because she wanted to break us up. I was 40 and she was 23 and mother was 47. That happened. After a month of dating her mother was causing so much problems and would not even meet me or give me a chance to prove I am a nice guy so I tried to break up with my lady and I predicted something that did come to pass not mystically but naturally My lady had been on her own living and attending college for 5 years. Her car was once her mothers. It was till in her mothers name. Mother had tried to get daughter to get it ouf or her name in in her own but my wife did not see the need. so when I was explaning why I was breakin up with her I explaned that her mother was so much a control freak that
she would take the car away from daughter to try to break us up. I also said that she would justify it because legally the car was still hers and that if her daughter insisted on marrying me and did not divorce me that daddy who was divorced from mother would end up buying the car. My lady did talk me into not breakin gup with her and said she resented the things i said about her mother. she said that car was hers that mother tried to get hjer to put it in her name for 5 years and that dad and mon faought like cats and dogs and that dad had a car so that would never happen. 6 months after we married dad had a car wrek rod the bus a few months then one day my wife got a letter explaning that since she refused to divorce me she sold the car to dad. Nothing paranormal or mystic just living with and being raised by control freaks. I used to be a control freak myself and that is how I know what they will do I ask myslf what I would to in the same situation if I was till a control freak.
I think this man was psychic however I will not dismiss the possibliity that this may have been the law of averages just like in Robert Tiltons hey day he was so over exposed that sooner or later his so called visions from god would fit someone. so this professional psychic may have had enough experience wih people like myself that he was guessing and like TR said won the lottery so to speak. I do think that cold reading and other tricks of the trade are used by psychics
Sorry, but all attempts (and there have been many) to scientifically gauge psychic abilities, using objective measurements of specific "truths" of prophecies have failed - utterly - to demonstrate anyone with any sort of REAL psychic powers. The most well-known (and virtually all "personal") examples of fulfilled prophecies (i.e., not those demonstrated to be hoaxes) come about because of super-generalized readings or because of the well-known principle of "the power of suggestion." (The latter explanation seems like the most probably one, in your case.) I have had direct experiences with people who seemed to have psychic-like powers (i.e., did things I have no idea how they did them) and those events have a magical quality I will never forget, but I have seen too many explanations of exactly how such things "could" have been done, to ever become even remotely "sold" on the concepts.
joemoser1948 | Feb 01, 2010
As a skeptic the first thing that I would ask is that do you have a recording or accuarate transcription of what the psychic said or is that just what you recall?
Leviticus | Feb 01, 2010
Yes, you’re right - it’s too long (and really really really boring!)
B K | Feb 01, 2010
If u predict with 100% accuracy why didn’t u forsee ur divorce and relationship problems? Just curious. I believe in psychics…but no one is 100% accurate.
Missy | Feb 01, 2010
SWT, based on your recounting of the events, I don’t think there can be many explanations offered. One thing I would have to ask, though, is if you wrote down or recorded the prediction. If you didn’t, you may be remembering it incorrectly and perhaps subconsciously harmonizing your memory of the prediction with the actual events that happened. Also, what information did you give the call-in screener when you called? That may have been passed on to the psychic.
Other than that, I tend to think that psychics such as the one you talked with basically "play the odds", whether recognize it or not. They say things that have a good chance of being basically true for the person they are talking to. The psychic may have been doing that with you, but I do see that the prediction the psychic gave you ended up being surprisingly accurate. But here’s another way to look at it. What are the odds on that? Maybe 1000:1 or 1,000,000:1 ? Someone may say that a million to one odds is just too much to happen by coincidence, so the psychic must have had real powers. On the other hand, every day a bunch of people win lotteries at greater than a million to one odds, and it definitely is coincidence. Another way of putting this is that even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.
TR | Feb 01, 2010
Thanks for the question. I can tell, from following your answers you are telling the truth and it is an interesting account.
I can absolutely see why you would think it a psychic prediction.
The trouble is, while I believe you believe, there’s really no way to explain it from my point of view. There’s just not enough information. As you mentioned you were in a funk and it’s a memory from 18 years ago. No offense but, memories tend to not be that dependable and I don’t see it as that remarkable of a prediction. If I were there at the time, I’d have an opinion. Anything now would be speculation and useless to us both and possibly insulting to you. Let’s just say I doubt this was a psychic experience and leave it at that.
Nice Guy | Feb 01, 2010
In my opinion, as a strong skeptic and believer, I don’t think anything too special of this. Maybe in the back of your mind you were keeping this "psychic" thought and so intentionally you didn’t want to go to the party, because you wanted to keep this "vision" clear. And in the bible it specifically denounces psychics and anything of that sort.

has anybody seen the movie The Haunting of Molly Hartley?
i saw the movie today and im kinda lost can someone tell me what the movie was about?? thanks
Molly almost died during childbirth; her mom had gone into labor while they were out & about (weren’t they in a walmart bathroom or something?). Someone from the coven "appeared" and offered to save the baby’s life if her parents promised to give the baby to the coven on her 18th birthday. Her mother and grandfather tried to kill her before that happened. The guidance counselor and love interest were secretly part of the coven. The father was in denial until the very end when the coven had them surrounded and Molly stabbed herself, but the perennial "clock had just struck twelve" and she couldn’t die.
The ending was a let down. They could have saved the special effects and ghostly stuff and created a much more satisfying ending based on story and acting alone.
Melissa & The Superbowl Saints | Nov 12, 2009
The parents didn’t want to lose their baby in the beginning so they made an agreement with the devil that when she was 18 they could take her as their own. Basically the mom was trying to kill her so that evil couldnt have her. In the end, she tried to kill herself, but the clock had already struck so she went to the "dark side" while her dad became mentally ill.

Are there really sand pits in Australia like in the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome?
I just rented Mad Max beyond thonderdome a couple days ago & was wondering if there are really quicksand like pits in the deserts of Australia like they portrayed in the movie? No rush on this just mildly curious. Best answer with a link gets my vote & I think its 5 points. Thanks.
I wanted to give this to AndrewG but there were no links. MikeM had links. Both get props & my thanks. Will pose another question to give points to the "other" best answer. Thanx All.
Not like the movie, but on the west coast of Tasmania there are numerous places where there is quicksand. In the southwest of the state the quicksand has claimed numerous 4×4 vehicles.
The last link I have given you is a state government website so it has some cred.

no mate there are no quicksand pits here i think in egypt and the amazon though, we do have water spouts and whirlpools but you wont see them
Mr Wrestling 3000 | Nov 12, 2009
yes, the movie was filmed in Australia! We call it bull dust here rather than quicksand though. It’s superfine dust and feels like talcum powder, unless you know how to drive in it it does act just like quicksand
tamara m | Nov 12, 2009
The section of "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" that you mention was filmed in a sand quarry at Kurnell; south of Sydney. They dug a pit in the sand and aerated it by blowing air through the sand; but this would not happen naturally. The producer told me that he got the idea from the film "Lawrence of Arabia", in which someone was swallowed up in dry quicksand. They also buried a mock-up of the tail section of a jumbo jet in a dune for another scene.

If a complete brain transplant were possible, would the recipient see the memories of the donor?
Memories and knowledge are not characteristics of neurons (everyone’s neurons are the same) but rather the connections between them (synapses). So, if you had someone else’s brain, you would have their synapses, and therefore their memories, personality, and for all intents and purposes BE them. Right?
yea you’ll be them but you’ll just be wondering why your body is different.

Yes.

Maybe. Memories are stored in the brain cells. After all, the recipient has the same brain cells already, but it could depend on how the body would react to the new brain. Actually, maybe you can’t just see the memories. Maybe you’d treat them as your own. Personalities, emotions, and memories all come from the brain, not from the soul or the heart as they say.
